The idea of forming the The Light The Way Technologies Inc took on new life in early January 2008.
I had worked for about four years in Newark, as a Management Consultant for AT&T and Prudential Financials. I used to wander down to the intersection of Market and Broad Street during the lunch time. I was depressed by the sight of hundreds of unemployed young people just hanging around with nothing to do.
Just blocks away were the mighty office towers housing several Fortune 100 companies. In my daily commute I rubbed shoulders with fellow professionals who commuted to and from Newark most using the train system from NJ or NY. Many never stepped onto the Newark streets as they stayed within the labyrinth towers during the lunch time and scooted back and forth within the covered Gateway center to their respective destinations.
Many times I would walk on the streets from my office to the station and realized that after 6:30 the pathways to the station converted into a graveyard of quietitude, eerily quiet with very few people in sight.
During office hours, while locked in these towers one would often hear the piercing sounds of sirens blaring in the street penetrating into the offices and meeting rooms.
I thought ...how could I and other professionals contribute our skills and business experience to help some of these young people seen on the sidewalks.
Why not teach technology to these folks. Why not help them to get a toe in the door of one of these great corporations.
I decided that Cory Booker the new mayor of Newark may be interested in working with me to get to this goal.....more later
